This fast-paced adventure will not disappoint those with an appetite for colorful action heroes, including a get-it-done Marine and a samurai-sword-wielding Japanese Special Forces officer. Together, they get down and dirty dealing with the selfish ambitions of China and Iran who star in this unholy alliance of convenience.
“He barely understood it himself. Why one country or another was willing to do anything, including declare war or commit murder, to grasp control of something they could learn to live without if they only tried.” Path of Thunder, pg 134.
James Marshall is a CIA analyst who has been assigned the job of finding out who killed his best friend, Agent Steve Kranz, as well as archeologist Davide Palestino. As he treks through Europe to Azerbaijan he discovers the murders are part of a long reaching conspiracy to gain control over a possible new source of oil. Along the way he joins forces with many rich and diverse characters, including Aria the daughter of the archeologist who has some of the answers he needs to find those responsible.
Author Mike Green has managed to use his own experience as an intelligence officer who served in the Middle East to write an action packed story that is all too timely in its theme. At times, truth and fiction seem to blur as his obvious inside knowledge brings the story to life in a realistic and believable way. Every character is well thought out, well developed and has something to add to the story whether it be information the protagonist needs or a bit of humor to lighten the mood. I truly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next one in the series!
