A collection of 409 thoughts, quotes, lessons, ideas, suggestions, reminders, and words of advice and encouragement to help you lead a more prosperous, rewarding, peaceful, happy, and fulfilling life.

"Unfortunately, most of us live by default. We all have dreams, ideas, and plans for our lives, for what we want to achieve, for what we want to become, yet a lot of us never accomplish what we dream. For one reason or another, we do not really seem to want what we say we want - although we say we want it - we lack the motivation, enthusiasm, and determination to get it. This may be because we do not see or have an idea as to how we are going to turn our dreams into reality, so we never give ourselves the opportunities to make them happen."

This book is filled with advice, lessons, ideas, reminders, and suggestions for how to live a more rewarding and balanced life. It is about attitude, goals, persistence, success, relationships, planning, personal and spiritual growth, and fulfillment. It is about choices and personal responsibility. It is about creating the drive, the burning desire to achieve what you want. It is about seeing life from a different point of view.

This book is about changing your way of thinking and changing your way of doing things and taking charge of your life. It is about losing the fear that you may have that does not allow you to move forward to create a better life for yourself and your love ones. It is about daring yourself to be successful, no matter what the odds. It is about learning to lead a peaceful, less stressful way of life. No more excuses!

Reviews

This book was an interesting one and though slim in size (only a scad past 100 pages) it was full of good advice. I found it to be a quick read as well as one you can sit down and read in one whole sitting or one that you could come back to for wisdom at any time. It seemed to me. to be perfectly honest, that although this is a simple book,  some of the advice was advice that we all have heard time and again (or did I grow up with the same type of parents as the author? Who knows!)

Despite that, I found I could easily skip over the advice I did not need and find nuggets of interesting quotes from people such as Lawrence J. Peter who said "If you don't know where you are going, you'll probably end up somewhere else." to the common sense quote from an anonymous author who said, "The best way to get something done is to begin." This really hit home with me, as I am in my winter procrastinating stage and don't want to finish projects. I have several started, yet I don't have the gumption to finish any of them.

I also liked the quotes that did not necessarily hit me with wisdom and introspection but left me smiling and nodding with agreement, such as "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be." by Kurt Vonnegut. As I am a Vonnegut fan, this really brought a smile to my face. It is so true and the author chose a great quote from a wonderfully ( and sometimes odd) writer to add to his book.

All in all, this is an interesting book. I like to change quotes on Facebook and Twitter and with this book, I will never be without a quote again. Though it did not have as many serious quotes as I would have liked, and others reminded me of a 1970's poster ("You have to wake up if you want your dreams to come true.") I did enjoy it and will refer to  it in the future, something I cannot say about every book I have read thus far.

This is a truly entertaining, delightful and thought provoking collection of 409 quotes, lessons, thoughts, words of advice and encouragement.  The author gleaned  these from his own life experiences and a far-ranging variety of sources.

Reading this book will offer a venue into looking at your own life experiences, past mistakes, family history and future aspirations.  By taking the time to read this book, page by page or section at a time, you can find the determination, motivation and understanding you need to move forward in your life.

I think this book would be a wonderful tool for personal reflection and future reference; to take from your bookshelf like an old and caring friend when you need encouragement, a boost of determination, or just a thought-provoking meditation to help you remind yourself what is truly important in your life.  I plan to keep it in mind as an excellent gift for an upcoming graduate or a friend pondering a change of circumstance in their own life.
