Sailor by author Michael L. Goines truly demonstrates the adage that “A sailor will have a woman in every port and a hustle in all the bars” In this autobiographical account Brother G truly lived his life like a sailor and did have some of the most interesting encounters and adventures. In this book Brother G recounts his many sexual conquests and liaisons thus proving that as a sailor he had a woman in every port. Also part of his sailor’s life Brother G took up a major street business as his “hustle in all the bars”. Written in a very comfortable and down to earth tone this book was easy to read and captured my attention as I read about the wild lifestyle that was Brother G’s. 

Sailor starts with Brother G’s beginnings as a young and eager United States Naval recruit which is where he got his first taste of the life of a sailor. The reader is taken on an adventurous romp through his stint in naval boot camp. During his time in boot camp, Brother G meets many colorful characters, some of whom become lifelong friends and have a great impact on his life; while other acquaintances held no real place at all they were just incidental characters during his boot camp days.

The story follows the natural timeline in his life and progresses from his boot camp days to his time on the naval destroyer that he assigned to serve on. Brother G deciding not to struggle to make it on just his naval pay eventually began to lead a double life at this time by working on the United States naval destroyer and by creating a major drug selling operation. Running into both problems and success Brother G worked with a team of closely trusted people during his free time as a civilian to sell Marijuana and hits of THC in several nearby areas. Brother G’s hustle did eventually make him a nice hefty sum of money – leaving him able to expand his business, travel and start a legitimate business.   Brother G led no ordinary existence as a sailor during this period of his life but eventually did settle down to live with his “Soul mate” and wife. 

Sailor is a great read and I recommend reading this book to anyone that enjoys reading well written, down to earth books, that give the intimate, firsthand accounts of a person’s life and exploits.
