A Treasury of Christian Verse

Lonnie E. Pruitt stirs the Christian heartstrings with Prayer Is Our Power, a satisfying collection of odes touching on what it means to walk with God. The miracle of nature, the delight of surrendering to the Lord, and the joy of spiritual love are just a few of the many themes touched on here. The more than eighty poems chronicle a range of spiritual experiences - from that first introduction to the Bible to the eventual constant veneration of and service to God - with grace and beauty. Through it all, Pruitt's moving verse shows an uncanny ability to harness the music and weight of words. Poems like "Making My Way Like Jesus," "Count on Me," and "Headed to Heaven" kindle the spiritual drive, reminding readers of the awesome power and love of God.

Inspiring, affirming, and uplifting, Prayer Is Our Power is food for the soul of Christians both young and old.

Reviews

Reading this book is like reading someone's personal prayer journal, or meditating on the Psalms. Thoughtful, descriptive, and a little more to be gleaned from each poem each time you read it. The author includes rhyme in his poetry without a consistent meter, which gave a whimsical, quaint effect that I enjoyed.

The cover is attractive, but I'll be honest and say that in addition to some grammatical errors, I found the layout a bit rough. For instance, you'd expect that if a line of verse is longer than a line on a page, the remainer that drops to another line would be indented to show it's still part of the first line. That doesn't happen, and it disrupts the flow of reading.

Despite the editorial issues, there is much good to be said about this book, and I suspect every Christian could relate well to at least one poem in this journey of poetry. One that struck me was "Something for You." I'd love to wake up every morning, not asking God to help me with my day, but asking Him what He would have me do for Him that day. I'm still getting there...

Father, what can I do for you today? I feel the need to assist you in any way...
To worship and praise you, these things I know, but there has to be more, to let my appreciation show...
You have said to ask, and you have said to call. Father you need love, too; I just need you to know that I am thankful and will forever give you my all.
It is good to receive your blessings, but feels so good to give back, completing the whole package.

Prayer is Our Power by Lonnie Pruit is a most touching, teaching, and sharing experience any reader can have. Mr. Pruitt has captured the essence of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his poetry. His words are true and to the point. There is never any hidden messages like some poetry. He has the ability to keep the mystical at bay, yet keep the spiritual up front.

I loved this book because I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his poetry, was speaking directly to me about God. Not once did I feel like this book was not part of the same love I have for my Lord and Savior. This book reaches out to Every Christian out there in the world. Readers really will feel the spirit and the love of this author has for his Heavenly Father.

I particularly loved a few poems in the book. "The Right Direction" was about finding your way back to God. Our strengths are given to us by God, and with God we will always know the right path to follow.  "God Feels You"  lest us know how much God loves us, and knows what we need, even before we are aware of that need. There were no poems in this book that lead me away from God, but only made me want to do better and be closer to God.

God is always here for us, we only need to learn to call on Him, pray to Him, and ask of Him. But most of all let's all Thank Him for loving us.

Thank you Lonnie Pruitt for writing what I am sure came from your Heart and Soul. Thank you for sharing your love and all your other feelings that you put down on paper for everyone to read.

“Prayer is Our Power”, is a beautifully written collection of inspirational poetry and prayers. Each one reflects God’s love and the path of righteousness. A Godly Rhythm reminds us that all of us fall down and when situations and circumstances become unbearable that we have a good and unchangeable God. One that is always looking out for our hearts and souls. A Realistic Love reminds us that if we are children of Christ we have God’s love flowing deep within, continually giving us strength. If you’re looking for a verse on redemption then Jesus Knows the Way, explains a way to the Father’s house. Togetherness One Day tells us that one-day we will all be together with Christ enjoying His beauty. Each poem and prayer brings you closer with the Lord as you read and meditate upon it. With uplifting title such as Everything is Good, Helping Me Through, True Faith, About Love, Blessed, Caring, and many more, you cannot help but to feel the love of God all around. “Prayer is Our Power is so beautifully written with phrasing as lyrical as a soothing psalm you feel the peace of God. Pruitt wrote Hands and vision, carrying the soul of compassion; Thoughts of beauty, in the same image, spiritually fashioned; Reflections of a heart, shaping feelings from the start: Soul giver to creation, releasing eyes to sensation, in the love God built. With words so full of meaning and life they could have be written by one of the great poets.

Pruitt wrote, the Lord is in my feelings showing them how to care, nursing my soul with joy, raising my heart to share. From the moment you read the first words you can feel the Spirit of the Lord rising from the pages.

Beautifully written, “Prayer is Our Power”, is a truly uplifting work of art, reminding me of a carefully planned sermon. When you feel as though your back is against the wall and the troubles of the world start weighing you down just open this book and let the love of God wash over you. Just as an artists paints his masterpiece on canvass Lonnie E. Pruitt has carefully painted his words on you heart. This is one book that I am proud to have on my bookshelf.
